Jambhavan is a devotionally directed sound project. Jambhavan leads inspired call and response chant sessions that stir the heart, calm the mind, and inspire unity. We combine classical Indian and western instruments with contemporary electronics to create ambient soundscapes and deep grooves.
The music of Jambhavan is created by Anne Leader and Fred Ghatala and performed with members of the Jambhavan project.
The story of Jambhavan:
Jambhavan is a divine bear with roles in both of the Indian epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. In the Ramayana, the legend is that Jambhavan was created by Brahma to help Rama in his epic battle against Ravana, the demon king and the antagonist in this great story. When Rama's wife, Sita, is held prisoner of the island of Lanka, it is Jambhavan who reminds Hanuman of his immense power and encourages him to leap across the ocean to rescue her.
