- Biography: Anne Leader – Composer/Producer/Arranger/Engineer/Teacher
Anne Leader is a musician, composer, and music teacher with an inherent awareness and respect for the power music has to impact people’s lives. Starting with classical piano lessons at age 5, she played multiple instruments throughout her youth in school and community bands, and in pit orchestras for companies such as Theatre In The Park and the North Shore Light Opera.
In her twenties and inspired by contemporary artists of the day, Anne turned her focus to rock music and began writing, recording, and performing with groups such as Barney Bentall and Spirit Of The West. With a strong desire to share a lifelong love of music with children, fueled by an ongoing enthusiasm for the creative arts and an innate ability to ignite that in others, Anne began a teaching practice that continues to this day. Her love for music composition directed her into the world of television where she scored award winning films broadcast by networks such as Global, APTN, CBC, CTV, Knowledge Network, and Slice.
Inspired by a life transforming trip to visit a World Vision sponsor child in a small village in Brazil, Anne founded the World Youth Music Organization (World Youth Music Organization on fb), a Not-For-Profit that fully embodied her commitment to supporting children in realizing their fullest creative potential and inherent dignity using music as the vehicle. WYMO closed after serving a wonderful purpose, and Anne continues her dedicated work to creating the opportunity for children everywhere to experience their full self-expression, well-being and self-worth through the beauty and power of music. "Music has the power to ignite the magnificence of the human spirit, and children must be provided the opportunity to experience this for themselves."
Anne has a passion for musical styles and instruments from all corners of the world, in particular India. She freely incorporates them into her compositions and works with these instruments with great respect and reverence. "Instruments from different parts of the world can create extraordinarily beautiful musical tapestries. The sounds born from nature and unusual combinations of instruments is an endless source of creativity".
Anne's passion for yoga and chanting has inspired the formation of the kirtan group, Jambhavan. Kirtan, a call and response pattern of chanting, is a powerful spiritual practice with its roots in the yoga tradition of India. She and her group play in and around the Vancouver area.
